Chapter 9 Data Analysis - For those who know the difference between
                          ANOVA and a super nova

There are a number of programs on the geri system for data analysis.
This document can only tell you how to get them going. Ater that you are
on your own.

The SAS System from the SAS Institute can be run with the 'sas' (all
lower case) command. If you append the name of a .sas program, it will run
in batch mode and provide you with your output and a log file. If you
enter the command 'sas &' with no other parameters, the program will run
interactively in your X window, so be sure to have that running first.
(The '&' after the command tells the system to run the program in the
background, so you can use your login screen to do other work at the same
time.) More information can be found at http://www.sas.com

S-Plus provides statistical analysis, graphics and programming
for UNIX workstations. Its graphics capabilities are reputed to be better
and easier to use than those in SAS. The command to start the program is
'Splus', and it requires X windows. More information can be found at
http://www.insightful.com/products/default.asp

HLM is for hierarchical linear and nonlinear modeling. The two
different level executables can be run with the commands 'hlm21' or
'hlm31'. More information can be found at
http://www.ssicentral.com/product.htm

Lisrel8, for structural equation modeling, is run with the command
'lisrel8'. More information can be found at
http://www.ssicentral.com/product.htm

SUDAAN, for the analysis of correlated data, is run with the command
'sudproc'. More information can be found at http://www.rti.org/sudaan/
