Shared Computing Resources in the Duke U. Center for Aging

Computing & Storage:
SUN Microsystems Ultra 10 with 512 megabytes of RAM and an internal hard disk 
of 20 gigabytes of storage capacity [used for data analysis]

SUN Microsystems Ultra 10 with 256 megabytes of RAM and an internal hard disk 
of 16 gigabytes of storage capacity [used for email]

SUN Microsystems Ultra 10 with 256 megabytes of RAM and an internal hard disk 
of 9 gigabytes of storage capacity [used for Windows file and print 
server]

SUN Microsystems Ultra 1 with 256 gigabytes of RAM and an internal hard disk 
of 9 gigabytes of storage capacity [used for web server]

21  gigabytes of external storage on 4 hard disks for the UNIX servers
500 gigabytes of external storage in a RAID array for the Windows file 
    server

Software:
SAS, HLM, SUDAAN, LISREL, and Splus are supported in the UNIX 
environment.
Word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database and other misc. 
computing functions are handled in the PC environment on the researchers 
own desktops.  

Printing:
4 high speed networked printers (3 black & white laser and 1 color laser)

Security:
The server room is secured behind 2 locked doors and access is restricted 
to authorized personnel.
The CFA IT department has a security design/disaster recovery plan based 
on the final HIPPA rule and certified by the Duke U. School of Medicine 
Compliance Office.
Tech support, facility maintenance and medical center police are available 
24 hours a day.

Backups:
3 cartridge tape drives, a zip-drive, four 4mm DAT drives and 2 AIT 3 
cartridge tape drives.
Automatic backups occur nightly.
File restorations are tested monthly and are available as requested.
