How to Re-register Your pc With the Domain Name Server (DNS)
May be needed if you are getting a message similar to the one below when
you are trying to send email from your pc:
"Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [nnn.nn.nn.nn]"
You need to Re-register Your pc with your ISP's Domain Name Server (DNS)
Here's how:
1. Go to the Start menu, Run....
2. Enter 'cmd' and press OK.
3. Enter the command 'ipconfig /registerdns'.
4. Verify that it worked by entering the command 'nslookup nnn.nn.nn.nn'
where the n's match the numbers in the error message you received.
5. If you get a response similar to the following, the problem should be
resolved:
Server: ecins1.duhs.duke.edu
Address: 152.16.177.101
Name: ise1501a.duhs.duke.edu
Address: 152.16.25.254
6. If you get a response like this:
*** ecins1.duhs.duke.edu can't find 152.16.26.17: Non-existent domain
then you need to enter the following two commands:
'ipconfig /release'
'ipconfig /renew'
7. Repeat from step 4.
8. If you still get the message re. 'Non-existent domain', try a reboot.
9. If you still get the message re. 'Non-existent domain', and this is
happening outside of Duke, you need to contact your ISP's networking
engineers and have them clear all of your entries from their Domain
Name Server. If this is happening on your Aging Center computer,
contact Irv Eisen at 660-7527.
