		  How to Configure the Email Clients 
		Most Often Used in the Center for Aging

Note: When your are instructed to enter data, that data will be surrounded
      by single quotes. Omit the single quotes when you enter the data.

Basic Facts that you will need to know:
Your personal name
Your email address in the format user@geri.duke.edu.
Your user name on the incoming server
Type of incoming server: IMAP
The name of the incoming server: geri.duke.edu
The name of the outgoing server: geri.duke.edu when you are on a computer
   directly connected to the Medical Center's network; otherwise, use the
   name of the server given to you by your ISP

Outlook
1. Drop down the Tools menu and click E-mail Accounts.
2. Select "Add a new e-mail account". Click Next.
3. Select IMAP. Click Next.
4. "Your Name:" should be your personal name.
   "E-mail Address:" is in the format 'user@geri.duke.edu'.
   "Incoming mail server (IMAP)" is 'geri.duke.edu'.
   "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" is 'geri.duke.edu' ONLY when you are on
   a computer directly connected to the Duke Medical Center's network.
   Otherwise, you need to enter the outgoing server name provided by the
   ISP of the network you are on.
   "User Name:" is your geri username.
   Make sure that the box next to "Remember Password" is NEVER checked.
5. Click on the tab labelled 'Advanced'. In the field labelled 'Root folder
   path:' enter '~/mail'. This will enable Outlook to find your mail folders
   saved on the server. Click OK. Click Next.
6. Click Finish.

Outlook Express
1. Drop down the Tools menu and click Accounts. Click Add then Mail...
2. Enter your personal name. Click Next.
3. Enter your email address in the format 'user@geri.duke.edu'. Click 
   Next.
4. Beside "My incoming server is a" drop down and select IMAP. Incoming
   mail server is 'geri.duke.edu'. Outgoing mail (SMTP) server is also
   'geri.duke.edu' but ONLY when you are on a computer directly connected
   to the Duke Medical Center's network. Otherwise, you need to enter the
   outgoing server name provided by the ISP of the network you are on.
   Click Next.
5. Enter your geri user name for your Account Name. Make sure that the
   box next to "Remember Password" is NEVER checked. Click Next.
6. Click on the tab labelled 'IMAP". In the field labelled 'Root folder path:'
   enter '~/mail'. This will enable Outlook Express find your mail folders.
   Click Ok.
7. Click Finish.


Eudora 6
1. Drop down the Tools menu and select Options...
2. Select the Category entitled "Getting Started". Enter your name.
   Enter your email address in the format 'user@geri.duke.edu'.
   Enter 'geri.duke.edu' for your incoming mail server.
   Enter your geri user name.
   Enter 'geri.duke.edu' for your outgoing mail server ONLY if you are
   on a computer that is directly connected to the Duke Medical Center's
   network.  Otherwise, you need to enter the outgoing server name 
   provided by the ISP of the network you are on.
   Leave the "Allow Authentication" box checked.
3. Select the Category entitled "Incoming Mail". In the field "IMAP
   Mailbox Location Prefix" enter '~/mail'.
