Community Level Datasets

Community data for sampled counties and cities were collected in the CLHLS surveys. The data include (1) Natural conditions such as longitude, latitude, topography type, temperature, area of forest coverage, main soil type, and people’s main diet in this area. (2) Age distribution of the population, levels of mortality, education, and urbanization. (3) GDP per capita, compositions of GDP, annual net income per capita and distance from the capital city of the province. (4) Number of registered medical personnel, number of hospital beds per 10,000 persons, nursing homes facilities for the elderly, monthly subsidies to the elderly.  (5) The main measurements of environmental pollution and whether heavy industry or a chemical factory is present. Because some statistical data in some poor areas are not available, and 10 (out of 80) community variables had missing rates greater than 5%. Thus, multiple imputations using statistical software must be carried out to deal with the missing community data.

The community level dataset will be released soon. The geographic code for each respondent in the waves of 2000, 2002, and 2005 is available now. Please contact the CLHLS technical support at clhls001@yahoo.com.
